Prof. Mona Abdel Hamid Al-Aasr, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Tanta University, Prof. Naglaa Abdel Aziz El-Shetany, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and the Student Welfare Office at the faculty, extend their sincere congratulations to Ms. Malak Hatem El-Bakry and Mr. Mohamed Helal Abdel-Moety, fourth-year students in the PharmD Bachelor Program, for successfully completing the training program “Future Fighters against AMR” organized by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). The program was held from August 18 to Friday, August 22, 2025.
The training program covered the following themes:
• Introduction to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), its causes, and its prevalence across Asia and Africa.
• Introduction to the concept of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and its role in reducing the spread of AMR, in addition to presenting the One Health principle, which links human, animal, and environmental health to combat the phenomenon.
• Presentation of the concept of Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and its importance in promoting the optimal and responsible use of antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals, thereby contributing to better patient health outcomes and reducing risks associated with the development of AMR.
• Training on how to apply AMS principles in hospitals and healthcare units.
• Highlighting the role of youth in addressing AMR, with case studies of university students and graduates who established initiatives and organizations supporting AMS implementation and the One Health approach.
• Showcasing innovative and effective methods for community awareness on AMR, using simplified approaches suitable for non-specialists, thus contributing to raising awareness and reducing the impact of the phenomenon.
• Introduction to the concepts of Policies and Advocacy, and explanation of practical steps for implementing advocacy in general, particularly in the context of combating AMR.
